This tragic short story by Elizabeth Denton is based on a true event at the end of World War II. The muted materials and colors were intentionally chosen to encourage thought and reflection on the story itself. Sugarcane paper is used for the cover in part as a connection to the importance of candy and sweets in the story, also reflecting the way the natural world surrounds the characters in the story but does not enable or inhibit their actions.
